Our Community

We are the Contemplative branch of the Missionaries of Charity, devoted to a life that is:

✢ Intensely Eucharistic
The Eucharist is the center of our community, for in the Eucharist we receive Jesus who forms us into a community.

✢ Deeply Contemplative
We are joyfully devoted to prayer and silent contemplation of God by our awareness of His presence and thirst for us, especially in the present moment.
‍
✢ Vibrant with Joy
Joy consists in giving joy to others. It is the fruit of pure surrender with no thought for self.

We seek to abandon ourselves totally into the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Mother.

Our Call

To satiate the thirst of Jesus Christ on the cross for love of souls by‍:

✢ Living the evangelical counsels (poverty, chastity, obedience)
‍
✢ Whole-hearted and free service to the poorest of the poor

... through a life of Eucharistic adoration, contemplation, solitude, fasting, penance, and going out to the poorest of the poor for 2 hours each day, proclaiming the Word of God by our presence and spiritual works of mercy.

A Heart of Prayer

In 1946, Jesus revealed to Mother Teresa, “Your vocation is to love and suffer and save souls”.

It is out of spousal love for Jesus that we give our lives to Him, in the spirit of loving trust, total surrender, and cheerfulness, to help bring souls to encounter His thirsting love on the cross.

As contemplatives, we answer this call by a life of prayer and sacrifice, entering into our own poverty and offering ourselves with and for others

...for the glory of God and salvation of souls.

Our Foundress

Our dearest Mother Teresa, together with Sr. M. Nirmala, M.C., founded the Contemplative branch on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1976.

It began in New York and quickly spread worldwide.

Sr. Nirmala became the successor of Mother Teresa in 1997.
